Cultivating Inner Rhythm

Sunday, March 8, 2026
7:30–9:30 am & 3:30–5:30 pm
The Social Good Place – SE Portland

Shadow Yoga in Portland is being revived, and it is a beautiful thing to see this community growing again. To support that momentum, I will be returning on March 8 for a two-session course devoted to cultivating inner rhythm.

The practice of karanas (causal actions) in Shadow Yoga cultivates suppleness in the body, steadiness in the mind, and regulated, rhythmic breath. This inner rhythm prepares the practitioner for meditation and gently draws the senses inward — the process Sri Patanjali describes as pratyahara in the Yoga Sutras.

Blending lecture, discussion, and practical experience, this course offers:

  • A deeper understanding of inner rhythm
  • Direct embodied experience of the karanas
  • Appreciation for rhythmic, dynamic movement leading toward seated practice

This workshop is appropriate for all levels, and no previous experience is required. Dynamic karanas involving squatting, lunging, and balancing will be used to awaken the internal energetic structure and prepare the body for seated work.

If you are navigating chronic or serious injuries, please reach out in advance. In most cases, the practice can be individualized to support your situation.

Schedule Announcement

No Regular Classes: March 20–29, 2026

The late spring and summer schedule will be released by March 13. Please note that no classes will be held March 20–29 (spring break week). Regular classes resume Monday, March 30.

Thank you for planning accordingly and for your continued steadiness in practice.

Thank you for reading, for caring, and for showing up. It is a privilege to teach within a community that values the rigor of the traditional lineage of Shadow Yoga.

I look forward to sharing time and space together in the weeks ahead.

Warmly,
Angie

Thoughts & Teachings To Improve Your Yoga Practice

Noticing the natural cycles of life, transformation and death in nature, we are reminded that breath, time and conscious also move in continuous, unbroken cycles. Noticing the subtle pauses between inhale and exhale, in our yoga practice, we are given a glimpse of that cycle, and the freedom that lives below the everyday awareness of the mind and all of its preferences.
